ECED& 120 - Practicum-Nurturing Relationships

This course focuses on establishing culturally responsive, nurturing, supportive relationships with all children and adults in early learning settings. Students will focus on promoting growth and development, and creating a safe and stimulating environment. Strategies for professionalism, understanding and acknowledging cultural responsivity in early care and eucation will be emphasized.

Prerequisite(s): Permission of instructor with proof of negative TB test (within one year), WA state approved MMR clearance, and valid National Background Check.

Course Outcomes

Examine how teachers’ lived experiences, identities, and cultural backgrounds shape their biases and interactions with children.
Explain the significance of cultural responsivity in early care and education.
Demonstrate strategies that build nurturing relationships between the child, family, and educator.
Practice ideals of professionalism and cultural responsivity when engaging with children, families and peers.
