ENGL& 235 - Technical Writing


5 CR

Develop technical communication across genres, including skills in professional writing, research, usability, accessibility, and design. Focus on audience and stakeholder analysis, clear and concise writing, and communicating information effectively through data, visuals, and other forms of information design.

Computer use is required. Note: Fulfills a written communication course requirement at BC.

Prerequisite(s): ENGL 101  or equivalent course from another college with a C- or better.

Course Outcomes

  • Analyze audiences, stakeholders, tasks, and contexts to inform effective technical communication in professional, collaborative, or multidisciplinary settings.

  • Conduct, evaluate, and synthesize primary and secondary research to support technical communication projects.

  • Draft, revise, and edit clear, concise, and effective technical documents for professional and organizational contexts.

  • Apply design principles to create accessible and usable multimodal documents that integrate text and visuals for print and digital media.

  • Apply ethical practices in technical communication and research and consider how diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds shape communication.
