Elementary-level Japanese I. Develops oral communication skills along with reading and writing kana characters and basic sentences. Some relevant aspects of Japanese culture are introduced. This course requires real-time interactive language practice.

Course Outcomes

Read and write hiragana and katakana
Know the verb groups, dictionary form, and masu-form
Read, write, and type simple sentences using noun and verb phrases
Engage in basic conversation, such as meeting new people or talking about routines, plans, and past activities
Communicate in a culturally appropriate way
