OLS 100 - Nutrition I: Food, Fitness, and Wellness

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of nutrition, food safety, and physical wellness. Students will explore how dietary choices and exercise contribute to overall health, and learn to apply nutritional guidelines to personal habits. Emphasis is placed on building a healthy lifestyle through informed food choices, safe food practices, and fitness planning.  Course is graded Credit/No Credit.

Prerequisite(s): Acceptance into Program

Course Outcomes
  • Identify nutrient-dense foods and explain their role in a balanced diet.  
  • Identify strategies for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.  
  • Describe safe practices for food storage, preparation, and handling.  

  • Set personal fitness goals using established physical activity guidelines.  

  • Explain the relationship between physical activity and overall wellness.  

  • Evaluate personal eating habits using nutrition principles.  

  • Create sample menus that align with national dietary guidelines.  

  • Interpret food labels to make informed dietary decisions.
