OLS 170 - Self-Determination


2 CR

This course empowers students to explore their personal identity, strengths, and areas for growth in both academic and community settings. Through guided reflection and practical activities, students will identify their interests, skills, and accomplishments, and examine how these shape their experiences. They will learn to communicate their strengths, goals, needs, and accommodations effectively, while developing personal management strategies to support success. The course also emphasizes self-assessment and goal setting, culminating in the creation of a personalized action plan with measurable steps toward greater independence and achievement.  Course is graded Credit/No Credit.

Prerequisite(s): Admission into Program 

Course Outcomes
  • Identify interests, skills and accomplishments and describe how these influence personal experiences. 

  • Demonstrate ability to clearly articulate your strengths and share them with others.  

  • Identify and apply personal management skills in academic and community settings.  

  • Identify and communicate personal goals, needs, and accommodations in academic and community settings.   

  • Identify areas for improvement in education, socialization, and personal independence.  

  • Create an action plan with measurable steps for improvement to achieve personal goals.
