OLS 177 - Workplace Readiness


2 CR

This course prepares students to transition into internships and employment by applying self-determination and workplace skills in real-world contexts. Students secure an internship site, refine professional materials, practice interviewing, and strengthen communication with supervisors and coworkers. Emphasis is placed on professionalism, problem-solving, self-advocacy, and readiness to meet workplace expectations prior to entering a two-quarter internship experience.  Course is graded Credit/No Credit.

Course Outcomes
  • Demonstrate professional workplace behavior and effective communication with supervisors and coworkers in simulated and authentic settings. 

  • Prepare and update professional materials, including a resume and related job-search documents. 

  • Research and evaluate internship and employment opportunities aligned with their chosen career pathway. 

  • Utilize a professional network to support career development, including contacting individuals for information, support, or internship opportunities. 

  • Demonstrate effective interviewing skills, including participation in practice interviews and responding to behavioral questions using strength-based examples. 

  • Apply problem-solving and self-advocacy strategies to address common workplace expectations and challenges.
