ANTH 120 - Technology, Tools, and Culture 5 CR
How have humans co-evolved with technology? This class utilizes the four-field anthropological approach to explore the deep history of human technological adaptation from evolutionary, archaeological, linguistic, and cultural perspectives. Explore how human technology and innovations -from stone tools to artificial intelligence (AI)- shape social life, identity, communication, and meaning.
Course Outcomes
- Identify the global role of technology in human cultural and biological evolution.
- Examine biological, cultural, linguistic, and historical implications of human creation and use of technology.
- Apply key anthropological concepts to understanding human technological innovation (from ancient tools to AI) and their impacts on society, including social inequality and power.
