HCI 293 - HCI – New Student Orientation


4 CR

Previously HCTM 293.
This course prepares students in the Healthcare Informatics program for transition into baccalaureate-level study. Students gain an understanding of program expectations, campus resources, and strategies for success in an online learning environment. Critical reading, research, and writing skills are included. Additionally, students make connections with HCI faculty, staff and peers, develop learning management system user skills and establish a learning portfolio.

Prerequisite(s): Acceptance into the program, or permission of instructor.

Course Outcomes
  • Develop personal goals and strategies for success in an online degree. 
  • Establish social connections with peers in an online cohort 
  • Establish academic and advising connections with HCI faculty and staff 
  • Construct a learning portfolio that will be used throughout the BAS degree 
  • Demonstrate ability to think critically, read analytically, and communicate effectively 
  • Develop academic proficiency in research techniques, formatting, self-reflection, and peer-review
