Phlebotomy Technician Certificate of Accomplishment

The phlebotomy technician program prepares students to certify and work as a phlebotomist in the clinical or laboratory setting. The program is designed to incorporate foundation courses in Allied Health education with focused courses in phlebotomy skills. The program includes required lecture, laboratory, and practical applications components to meet state and national standards for certification and employment.

 

Learning Outcomes

Certificate recipients should possess the following skills& abilities:

  • Follow CLSI (Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute) standards for blood collection methods
  • Describe the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system as it relates to venipuncture
  • Follow CLSI guidelines regarding phlebotomy-related documentation
  • Communicate respectfully, confidentially, and professionally with co-workers, health care professionals, customers, patients, and their families
  • Apply an understanding of laws and ethics as required in health care practice
  • Recognize and respect cultural influences and perceptions
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively in an existing healthcare team

Important Notes/Conditions

This applies to the students seeking Allied health AAS-T degree upon completion of the certificate:

  • To earn any certificate in Allied Health, students must complete all required certificate program courses with a grade of “C” or better.
  • To earn the AAS-T degree in Allied Health, students must first complete a certificate in Allied Health, and they must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2. 0 for all coursework taken at BC and the courses applied to the degree, including credits transferred from other colleges.
