Software Development BAS, Application Development concentration


The BAS in Software Development will provide graduates with a broad base of theoretical and technical knowledge, as well as specialized knowledge in one of the concentration areas: application development or artificial intelligence. 

The Application Development concentration will include fundamentals of programming, OOP, design patterns and practices, database applications, web technologies, and application environments, including mobile devices and the cloud.

Learning Outcomes

Program graduates should be able to:

  • Apply core competencies learned in the graduate’s chosen concentration to function as a successful professional in the field of Software Development.
  • Apply a broad understanding of software development, creative problem-solving techniques and systems thinking to develop solutions.
  • Work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams to apply development strategies in support of organizational goals.
  • Identify and analyze user needs and take them into account in the selection, creation, evaluation, implementation and administration of software development.
  • Work efficiently and effectively applying sound project management techniques and professional communication skills.
  • Analyze the local and global impact of information technology on individuals, organizations, and society.
  • Apply best practices and standards, conform to legal and regulatory standards, and apply appropriate ethical considerations including respect for privacy and intellectual property.

Program Eligibility

Individuals must have:

  • Associate degree in an information technology or computer science-related field from a regionally accredited institution, or
  • Program Prerequisites or equivalent credits that represent the combination of program admission required courses and other college-level credits.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, with a minimum grade of C in all prerequisite courses.
  • At least 20-21 credits of general education requirements are to be completed as part of the associate’s degree.
  • Technical credits may not be accepted if more than 5 years old. These requirements may be substituted for specialized experience (see Program Manager).
  • Math credits may not be accepted if more than 5 years old. Math classes more than 5 years old may be accepted based on Math placement test results (see Program Manager).

Degree Requirements

Completion of all required courses as shown in the worksheet for each corresponding concentration. In addition to eligibility requirements, students must also achieve the following:

  • Complete General Education Requirements, Elective Credits, and BAS Degree Requirement with a grade of “C” or better
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all coursework taken at BC and the courses applied to the degree, including credits transferred from other colleges
  • At least 45 quarter credits for the degree must be completed in residence at BC, of which 30 credits must be upper-division
  • Courses may be subject to minimum grade requirements and prerequisites. 

Application Process

This is a selective admissions program. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission, as the number of qualified applicants may exceed the number of available seats in the program. It is recommended that students meet with the program manager before filling out the BAS application to make sure they qualify.  Check the program’s website today to see if you are ready to apply and schedule an appointment.

To be considered for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Software Development- Application Development prospective students must submit the following:

  1. First-time Bellevue College students must apply for General Admission before filling out the BAS degree application. Processing time for general admissions is typically 1-3 business days.
  2. All students who have transfer credits will need to follow the steps for submitting official transcripts from all regionally accredited colleges attended other than Bellevue College. This will include completing the program-specific Transfer Credit Request form for each transcript. Your application can be reviewed with unofficial transcripts. However, your acceptance into the program will not be determined until official transcripts have been received and evaluated.
  3. Fill out and submit the BAS application. You will also be required to upload all unofficial transcripts if not already on file with Bellevue College.

PREREQUISITES (General Education) 20-21 CR


Students may be admitted with an associate degree in IT or a CS-related field or with 65 equivalent credits that represent the combination of program admission required courses and other college-level credits.

Students who don’t have an associate degree in an IT-related field from Bellevue College should contact the program manager for technical prerequisite courses. Technical credits may not be accepted if more than 5 years old. These requirements may be substituted for specialized experience (see Program Manager). Math credits may not be accepted if more than 5 years old. Math classes more than 5 years old may be accepted based on Math placement test results (see Program Manager).
