First-Year Seminar

First-Year Seminar Requirement

Most new Bellevue College students whose primary intent is earning the Associate in Arts & Sciences (AAS-DTA) or Associate in Science Track I or II degrees are required to take a First-Year Seminar (FYS) course.  It is expected that students will take an FYS course in their first term because these classes are a great introduction to college and a proven method to boost student success.

Students meet the FYS requirement by taking one of the following options:

  • STEM 101  and STEM 102
  • CEO 101  and CEO 102
  • HD 103  or HD 120  or HD 125  or HD 173
  • The following exemptions have been approved:

    • Completed a First-Year Seminar or College Success course at a different college with a grade of D (1.0) or better;
    • Completed a degree with 45 or more college credits from a regionally accredited college;
