Course includes certifications in: Basic Life Support CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, Workplace Violence Prevention, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and First Aid.

This course will train students to apply the appropriate protective practices in a healthcare office and/or clinical emergency situations. These trainings will include blood-borne pathogens, standard precautions, infectious diseases, infection control, disinfecting and sterilization, isolation precautions, and post-exposure plans.

Course Outcomes

Perform protective practices and infection control.
Apply basic principles of first aid and CPR as they pertain to healthcare setting scenarios.
Identify safety techniques that can be used in responding to biohazards, emergencies, and accidents in the healthcare setting.
Define medical asepsis as practiced within a healthcare setting.
Apply the principles of standard precautions, isolation precautions, and blood-borne pathogen training to healthcare scenarios involving communicable diseases.
Apply hazardous materials training to healthcare scenarios.
Identify the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Occupational Health and Safety Agency (OSHA) regulations that impact healthcare practices.
Demonstrate self-awareness in responding to an emergency situation and recognize the physical and emotional effects on persons involved in an emergency situations.
