AHE 120 - Safety for Healthcare 2 CR
Course includes certifications in: Basic Life Support CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, Workplace Violence Prevention, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and First Aid.
This course will train students to apply the appropriate protective practices in a healthcare office and/or clinical emergency situations. These trainings will include blood-borne pathogens, standard precautions, infectious diseases, infection control, disinfecting and sterilization, isolation precautions, and post-exposure plans.
Course Outcomes

Perform protective practices and infection control.
- Apply basic principles of first aid and CPR as they pertain to healthcare setting scenarios.
- Identify safety techniques that can be used in responding to biohazards, emergencies, and accidents in the healthcare setting.
- Define medical asepsis as practiced within a healthcare setting.
- Apply the principles of standard precautions, isolation precautions, and blood-borne pathogen training to healthcare scenarios involving communicable diseases.
- Apply hazardous materials training to healthcare scenarios.
- Identify the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Occupational Health and Safety Agency (OSHA) regulations that impact healthcare practices.
- Demonstrate self-awareness in responding to an emergency situation and recognize the physical and emotional effects on persons involved in an emergency situations.
