FRCH& 123 - French III 5 CR
Continues FRCH 122 at the novice high level. Format includes extensive audio and Internet usage. Various aspects of French-speaking cultures are presented. After successful completion, students are encouraged to continue with FRCH 221 .
This class is not intended for heritage speakers (i.e. students who grew up speaking French at home in a place where French is not the medium of instruction in schools) or native speakers (i.e. students who grew up in a place where French is the medium of instruction in schools).
Recommended: FRCH 122 or equivalent permission of the instructor. Course Outcomes
- Manage everyday interactions in French, in both speaking and writing, in a selected variety of settings using present, past, and future tenses and the present subjunctive related to themes like food and meals, routines and health, modern life, advice and recommendations.
- Refer back to previously mentioned information in spoken and written interactions in French with increasing efficiency.
- Overcome communication obstacles by compensating for language gaps at a novice high level when navigating a number of real-world situations in French.
- Interpret authentic texts, art, music, film and performing arts related to the course themes above to show a broader understanding of French-speaking cultures.
- Reflect on the diversity of language and culture within the French-speaking world and how that compares to one’s own language and culture.
