HPM 405 - Health Behavior Theory and Change

Explores the various models and theories of health behavior. Factors that influence health behavior at individual, family, community and national/societal levels are investigated.

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Health Promotion and Education program, or permission of the Program Chair.

Course Outcomes
  • Identify and explain key concepts and theories related to health behavior change.
  • Differentiate between various theoretical perspectives on health and illness behavior, recognizing their strengths and limitations.
  • Apply basic behavioral science principles to understand and influence individual and community health choices.
  • Critically evaluate the role of social and environmental factors in shaping health behaviors.
  • Identify and analyze real-world examples of health promotion interventions based on different theoretical frameworks.
  • Develop basic skills for assessing and evaluating health behaviors
  • Communicate effectively about health behavior theories and their applications in written and oral presentations.
  • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of the ethical considerations involved in health promotion interventions.
