HPM 470 - Technology in Health Promotion

Adding an additional credit, from 4 to 5, to exisiting course as recommended by the HPE advisory board. 
An exploration of contemporary technologies employed in health promotion programs, this course delves into interactive tools and media designed to empower individuals in fostering proactive health habits. Students will gain comprehensive insights into the ethics of use and resources to evaluate the latest technological advancements, encompassing a spectrum that includes but is not limited to, online challenges and assessments, mobile applications, digital health coaching programs, web portals, social networking, portable trackers, and use of electronic medical records.

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Health Promotion and Education program, or permission of the Program Chair.

Course Outcomes
  • Analyze the impact of contemporary technologies on health promotion.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of various technological tools for different health behaviors.
  • Develop strategies for implementing technology-based interventions in health promotion programs.
  • Critically assess the ethical considerations and potential challenges associated with using technology for health promotion.
  • Design and develop a technology-based intervention for a specific health behavior.
