ITAL 122 - Italian II 5 CR
Continues at the novice mid-level. Format includes extensive audio and Internet usage. Various aspects of Italian-speaking cultures are presented. After successful completion, students are encouraged to continue with ITAL 123 .
This class is not intended for heritage speakers (i.e. students who grew up speaking Italian at home in a place where Italian is not the medium of instruction in schools) or native speakers (i.e. students who grew up in a place where Italian is the medium of instruction in schools).
Recommended: ITAL 121 or equivalent or instructor permission. Course Outcomes
- Manage common interactions in Italian, in both speaking and writing, in predictable settings using the present and beginning to use past and future tenses with themes like free time, shopping, food, daily routines, and health.
- Apply inference skills and overcome vocabulary gaps by describing forgotten words at a novice mid-level when navigating a limited number of real-world situations in Italian.
- Interpret authentic written texts, art, music, film and performing arts related to the course themes above while exploring Italian cultures with greater complexity.
- Identify a deeper level of diversity within Italian culture and how that compares to one’s language and culture.
