DEV 228 - Data Visualization and Exploration with Python

Previously PROG 228.
This course will teach students how to work in-depth with data using the Python programming language. Emphasis will be placed on using Python libraries to get, clean, prepare and shape data to use in various data analysis and visualization tools. Students will create data frames, plots, statistical charts, and data representations to help inform business decisions. 

Prerequisite(s): DEV 108  or PROG 108, and BUSIT 103 , all with a C or higher, or permission of the instructor.

Course Outcomes
  • Understand the purpose and use of popular Python data visualization libraries.
  • Locate and retrieve sources of data freely available. 
  • Import and clean datasets of irregularities, anomalies, and missing values.
  • Examine and modify data types and columns. 
  • Prepare and shape a variety of data formats.
  • Create data frames, plots, charts and represent data using Python tools.
  • Use data visualization to analyze data and draw meaningful patterns and insights. 
  • Use best practices to communicate results and analysis to intended audience
  • Determine the best representation of data visualization.
