CS 209 - Introduction to Computer Programming 5 CR
This course builds the foundation for core concepts in computer programming for students with no prior programming experience. Students learn how to develop programs in a modern programming language with an emphasis on computer science fundamentals and problem-solving. Students learn current industry standards for testing and debugging different solutions for scientific and technical problems.
Prerequisite(s): MATH 141 (or higher), or placement by assessment in MATH 142 or above, or entry code.
Course Outcomes
- Design a step-by-step plan to solve a problem and write it down clearly (e.g., using pseudocode).
- Understand and predict how code works, including basic rules and structures.
- Write clear and correct programs that follow given rules and solve specific problems.
- Explain and document what code does in a clear way.
- Create test cases to check if a program works as expected.
- Identify and fix errors in code.
- Discuss the effects of technology on society and explain how programmers’ choices can make a difference.
