ELA 24 - Low Intermediate ELA

This is low intermediate English for English Language Learners.

Course Outcomes
Outcomes align with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCR), English Language Proficiency Standards (ELP), and Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO). 

• Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details.  (CCR Reading Anchor 2.B; ELP 1.4; ILO Information Literacy) 

• Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.  (CCR Reading Anchor 1.B: ELP 1.4)                       

• Determine the meaning of general academic and domain-specific words and phrases in a text relevant to a topic or subject area.   (CCR Reading Anchor 4.B: ELP 8.4)        

• Find the meaning of words and phrases using roots, affixes, and sentence-level context. (CCR Language Anchor 4.B: ELP 8.4) 

• Use English grammar to write and speak.  (CCR Language Anchor 1.B: ELP 10.4)  

• Rotating task and purpose: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. (CCR Writing Anchor 2.B: ELP 3.4), or write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information. (CCR Writing Anchor 1.B: ELP 4.4)  

• Report on a topic or text, tell a story or recount an experience with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details. Speak at a pace that listeners can follow. (Speaking & Listening Anchor 4.B: ELP 3.4)   

• Ask questions to check understanding of the information presented, stay on topic, and link your comments to the remarks of others. Explain your own ideas and understanding in the discussion. (Speaking & Listening Anchor 1.B: ELP 4.4)
