ELA 27 - English for Computers

1-10 CR

Students develop reading, writing, speaking, listening, and technology skills through rotating topics within Health Science, Business, Career Exploration, and Washington State History. Students learn to use a computer to do assignments.

This is high-beginning to low-intermediate English for English Language Learners.

Course Outcomes

Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. (CCR Reading Anchor 1.B: ELP 1.4)

Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details. (CCR Reading Anchor 2.B: ELP 1.4; ILO Information Literacy)

Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. (CCR Writing Anchor 2.B: ELP 3.4)

With guidance and support, use technology to produce and publish writing (using keyboarding skills) and to interact and collaborate with others. (CCR Writing Anchor 6.B)

Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly. (Speaking & Listening Anchor 1.B: ELP 4.4)

Report on a topic or text, tell a story, or recount an experience with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details, speaking so that listeners can follow. (Speaking & Listening Anchor 4.B: ELP 3.4)
