ELA 27 - English for Computers


1-10 CR

Students develop reading, writing, speaking, listening, and technology skills through rotating topics within Health Science, Business, Career Exploration, and Washington State History. Students learn to use a computer to do assignments.   

This is high-beginning to low-intermediate English for English Language Learners.

Course Outcomes
Outcomes align with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCR), English Language Proficiency Standards (ELP), and Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO). Upon course completion, students should be able to:

  • Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. (CCR Reading Anchor 1.B: ELP 1.4)  
  • Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details. (CCR Reading Anchor 2.B: ELP 1.4; ILO Information Literacy)   
  • Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. (CCR Writing Anchor 2.B: ELP 3.4)  
  • With guidance and support, use technology to produce and publish writing (using keyboarding skills) and to interact and collaborate with others. (CCR Writing Anchor 6.B)                                                         
  • Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly. (Speaking & Listening Anchor 1.B: ELP 4.4)  
  • Report on a topic or text, tell a story, or recount an experience with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details, speaking so that listeners can follow. (Speaking & Listening Anchor 4.B: ELP 3.4)    
  • Use English grammar when writing or speaking. (CCR Language Anchor 1.B: ELP 10.4) 
  • Demonstrate command of the conventions English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. (CCR Language Anchor 2.B: ELP 10.4)
