ELA 81 - Writing Intermediate/Advanced

Students develop writing skills in the context of Business Technology, Social Science, Public Service, and Community Engagement.

Prerequisite(s): Department Consent Required

Course Outcomes
Outcomes align with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCR), English Language Proficiency Standards (ELP), and Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO).  

  • With guidance and support, use technology to produce and publish writing (using keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and collaborate with others. (CCR Writing 6.C: ELP 2.5)  

  • Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information. (CCR Writing Anchor 2.C: ELP 3.5; ILO Critical Thinking)  

  • Recall or gather relevant information from experiences or print and digital sources: summarize or paraphrase information and provide a list of sources. (CCR Writing Anchor 8.C: ELP 2.5; ILO Information Literacy)  

  • Conduct short research projects that build knowledge about a topic. (CCR Writing Anchor 7.C: ELP 5.5)  

  • Demonstrate command of the conventions of capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. (CCR Language Anchor 2.C: ELP 10.5)
