ELA 83 - Speaking and Listening High-Beginning/Intermediate

Students develop speaking and listening skills in the contexts of Social Science, Public Service, Community Engagement and Health Science.   

This is high beginning to low intermediate English for English Language Learners.

Course Outcomes
Outcomes align with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCR) and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELP).  

  • Engage effectively in various collaborative conversations with different partners, building on others’ ideas and expressing your own ideas. (CCR Speaking & Listening Anchor 1.B, ELP 2.4)  

  • Report on a topic, tell a story, or recount an experience with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details, and speak at a pace listeners can follow. (CCR Speaking & Listening Anchor 4.B, ELP 3.4)     

  • Ask and answer questions about information from a speaker to get information.  (CCR Speaking & Listening Anchor 1.B, ELP 2.4)  

  • Use words and phrases learned in conversations, reading, and being read to; use adjectives, adverbs, and general academic and domain-specific words and phrases. (CCR Language Anchor 6.B: ELP 7.4)   

  • Use English grammar when speaking. (CCR Language Anchor 1.B, ELP 10.4)
