CES 263 - Reproductive Rights and Justice

This course examines individuals’ reproductive rights or access to safe birth control and abortion and the social, political, and economic factors that impact the reproductive experiences, as well as bodily autonomy and self-determination, of marginalized people. The course utilizes a reproductive justice framework to think about and study historical and contemporary discourses, institutional barriers, and possibilities surrounding one’s reproductive decisions.

Course Outcomes

Define and distinguish between reproductive justice and reproductive rights.
Explain how the intersection between gender, sexuality, race, class, ability, and nationality has and continues to impact one’s reproductive life and experience.
Evaluate key policies and laws related to reproduction, women’s health, childcare, and abortion and indicate how these policies and laws relate to each other.
Discuss global debates and legislation related to reproductive rights and choices.
Sharpen written, verbal, and reading skills by completing class assignments and activities.
Analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information and ideas from various perspectives.
