ASL& 123 - American Sign Language III 5 CR
Continues ASL& 122. Students learn to communicate about food, people, communities, and home life. Emphasis is placed on storytelling, role shifting, and descriptive classifiers, as well as understanding Deaf cultural norms and language diversity. This course requires real-time interactive language practice.
Recommended: ASL 122 or equivalent or instructor permission Course Outcomes
- Demonstrate proficiency in expressive and receptive ASL at the intermediate level.
- Use role shifting and depiction to narrate short stories and describe experiences.
- Apply descriptive and locative classifiers to describe environments, people, and objects.
- Produce accurate number signs related to money, dates, and addresses.
- Identify and explain concepts of Deaf culture, including Deaf-owned businesses and accessibility.
- Apply conceptually accurate signing, translation skills, and grammatical control in conversation.
- Demonstrate understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity within the Deaf community.
