CMST 123 - Introduction to Digital Cinema

This course is designed to introduce students to the latest cameras used in cinema (i.e. RED camera, digital film, HD). Students will be exposed to camera equipment, discuss theories, and critique use of various cameras in film making. The course is designed as an intensive workshop.

Course Outcomes
Identify key similarities and differences between traditional film and digital film cameras. Describe the influence digital cinema cameras have on the visual narrative of a film. Compare, contrast and critique work filmed with digital and film cameras. Describe the opportunities and limitations of digital film cameras. Explain the role digital film cameras currently play in the film industry Analyze the current and potential future impact of a transition from traditional film to digital film cameras Operate digital film cameras at a novice level Explain and demonstrate role of computer lab and computer programs in processing digital film footage
