ENGR& 214 - Statics

4 CR

Explores principles of statics, vector algebra, force-couple relationships, equilibrium analysis, structures, area properties, beams, and friction.

Prerequisite(s): PHYS 121  or MATH 254 .

Course Outcomes
  • Model force, moment and position using vectors and/or graphical techniques.
  • Isolate portions of mechanical systems using free-body analysis and perform equilibrium analysis in 2D and 3D, including friction modelling.
  • Apply centroid concepts to: mass center, pressure and distributed loads.
  • Generate the internal shear and moment diagrams at single cross sections and continuously along beams.
