NURS 360 - Management in Healthcare 4 CR
Focuses on the development management skills assumed by healthcare professionals: delegation of responsibility; networking; facilitation of groups; conflict resolution; case management; and collaboration. Management and organizational theories are studied, evaluated and applied. Concepts include organizational structure, change, managing quality and performance, workplace diversity, budgeting and resource allocation, and delivery systems.
Prerequisite(s): Admission into BSN program.
Course Outcomes - Examine the evolution of management theories in relationship to the changing healthcare environment
- Identify and discuss various regulatory agencies and quality improvement factors in promoting safety and evaluation of quality in healthcare settings
- Employ principles of quality improvement, healthcare policy and cost-effectiveness to improve patient outcomes.
- Incorporate inter and intra-professional communication techniques to promote effective and sustainable working relationships with individuals and groups
- Differentiate various types of budgets in health care settings and identify steps in the budgetary process.
- Evaluate the use of appropriate performance appraisal tools for measuring performance, coaching and motivating staff.
- Discuss Case Management as it applies to the future of providing health care and the Affordable Care Act.
- Apply principles of nursing management including inter-professional communication, collaboration, in a fieldwork environment.
