HPM 330 - Outdoor Leadership for Health Educators 5 CR
Exposes students to team-building processes, adventure planning and risk assessment. Topics include conflict resolution, team formation, group dynamics, leadership, risk management and decision making.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Health Promotion and Education program, or permission of the Program Chair.
Course Outcomes
- Describe theories of team formation, and develop a personal leadership inventory in the context of specific group dynamics.
- Identify the health benefits of outdoor recreation on population health and steps to mitigate barriers to access for varied populations
- Identify perceived and actual risks associated with select outdoor activities and develop risk management plans for specific outdoor events and locations.
- Develop project implementation plans using a logical and transferable planning rubric.
- Develop working experience with these practices through cumulative and experiential activities.
- Evaluate leadership skills developed in the context of outdoor activities as used for the promotion of health and community.
