HPM 430 - Chronic Disease Prevention & Interventions

Explores the relationship between chronic diseases/conditions, lifestyle behaviors, and the environment. Includes an examination of a wide variety of chronic conditions and focuses on prevention and management strategies.

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Health Promotion and Education program, or permission of the Program Chair.

Course Outcomes
  • Understand the role of inflammation, stress, and epigenetics in the development of chronic diseases.

  • Examine the etiology, prevalence, risks, treatment options, and effective prevention strategies of current chronic disease processes.

  • Evaluate the impacts of a healthy lifestyle on the prevention or management of chronic conditions.

  • Examine the relationship between health disparities and social determinants of health in the prevention and management of chronic diseases.
