PARED 136 - Parent Education for Parents of Young Children

This is the parent / caregiver component of our STEM summer camp for children. Coursework includes a one hour lecture portion, to be held online in the evening prior to the first session of the lab. The lecture will focus on supporting STEM learning in children, and building problem-solving skills and a growth-based mindset. It also includes 2.5 hours of lab time, as the parent / caregiver is required to work in the children’s classroom one day of the camp. This lab time offers the opportunity to observe and practice child guidance techniques. Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory

Prerequisite(s): Permission of instructor

Course Outcomes
  • Demonstrate first-hand knowledge of age-appropriate ways to support learning experiences in the child’s laboratory. 
  • Describe many ways to support a child’s STEM learning in everyday routines. 
  • Give examples of open questions to ask to help guide a child’s learning.
