AI 101 - Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Fundamentals

Previously ROBAI 101.
This course covers the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence (AI), including machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. Students will experiment with AI development using tools and Python libraries. Additionally, students will use the principles of robotics to program motion control and sensors. Other topics include the history of AI, current examples of AI applications, ethics and the future of AI.

Prerequisite(s): Placement by assessment into MATH 141   or completion of MATH 99   with a C or better, or the equivalent course from another college, and DEV 108  or DEV 108 or ISIT 333 or DATA 333 with a C or better.

Course Outcomes
  • Understand the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence and its history.

  • Identify the different approaches to AI, including supervised and unsupervised learning, and deep learning.
  • Define common AI applications such as machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics.
  • Understand the basics of statistics and data science and how they relate to AI.
  • Design and implement simple AI systems using tools and the Python programming language.
  • Utilize the principles of robot motion and perception to program a robot to perform specific tasks.
