HPM 462 - Practicum Preparation 2 CR
This capstone course prepares Health Promotion and Education (HPM) majors for a successful practicum experience. Through a combination of theoretical frameworks, practical skills development, and professional guidance, you will gain the knowledge and confidence to navigate the application, interview, and volunteer stages of your practicum. By the end of the course, you will have developed and secured approval for a health promotion program proposal, laying the foundation for 100 hours of real-world implementation and evaluation during your practicum.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Health Promotion and Education program.
Course Outcomes
- Articulate their career goals within the HPM field and identify specific areas of interest for their practicum placement.
- Demonstrate proficiency in key professional skills, including crafting effective resumes and cover letters, performing well in mock interviews, and confidently networking with potential supervisors and community partners.
- Apply evidence-based principles to develop a well-structured and comprehensive program proposal, including a needs assessment, target audience identification, and intervention design.
- Effectively communicate their program proposal to faculty and community partners, addressing feedback and incorporating suggestions for improvement.
- Develop a preliminary plan for evaluating the impact of their proposed program using appropriate frameworks and tools.
- Navigate the practicum application process with confidence, demonstrating their preparedness for interviews and volunteer placements.
- Establish connections with potential practicum supervisors and community partners, laying the foundation for a successful and impactful practicum experience.
