Radiation and Imaging Sciences, Nuclear Medicine Concentration, BAS

The BAS concentration in Nuclear Medicine is designed for individuals who have completed a nuclear medicine technology educational program and want to advance their knowledge and skills within this specialty.

The curriculum includes an overview of business and administrative functions in healthcare, foundational knowledge in information systems and accreditation, and essentials of leadership, along with advanced expertise in nuclear medicine and related fields. 

The degree includes 180 credits, 50 of those from national certification and 40 from prerequisite/co-requisite work.  The other 90 credits are 300-400 level classes in the Radiation and Imaging Sciences and Healthcare Management and Leadership programs, as well as general education courses in economics, communications, and ethics. 

Learning Outcomes 

Degree recipients should possess the skills and abilities described below: 

• Perform PET, CT and PET/CT examinations, analyze the results, and provide appropriate patient care relevant to each modality.
• Demonstrate a level of knowledge in nuclear cardiology, positron emission tomography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging that is commensurate with certification exams in these fields.
• Discuss concepts of and provide input into the management of radiology image/information processing systems, quality assurance programs, and departmental accreditation efforts.
• Apply concepts of management, communications, and teamwork to the operation of a nuclear medicine department, and develop strategies to improve departmental function.
• Analyze aspects of health care as currently practiced in the United States, from the standpoint of economic challenges, cultural differences, and ethical dilemmas.
• Communicate with culturally dissimilar persons in a professional environment.
• Given a variety of scenarios, integrate all aspects of nuclear medicine into holistic solutions or responses.

Program Eligibility 

Individuals must have: 

• National certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology 
• Demonstrated completion from a regionally accredited college of the following courses, or their equivalent, with a grade point average of 2.0 or better: 
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology I  & II  
  • English composition course and Technical Writing or Research Writing

Degree Requirements 

In addition to eligibility requirements, students must achieve the following: 

• Completion of 90 quarter credits in the general program and concentration requirements, with a grade of “C”, or better. 
• A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all coursework taken at BC and the courses applies to the degree, including credits transferred from other colleges. 
• At least 45 quarter credits for the degree must be completed in residence at BC, of which 30 credits must be upper division. 

Application Process

This is a selective admissions program. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission, as the number of qualified applicants may exceed the number of available seats in the program. It is recommended that students meet with the program manager before filling out the BAS application to make sure they qualify.  Check the program’s website today to see if you are ready to apply and schedule an appointment.

To be considered for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Radiation and Imaging Sciences- Nuclear Medicine, prospective students must submit the following:

1. First-time Bellevue College students must apply for General Admission before filling out the BAS degree application. Processing time for general admissions is typically 1-3 business days.
2. All students who have transfer credits will need to follow the steps for submitting official transcripts from all regionally accredited colleges attended other than Bellevue College. This will include completing the program-specific Transfer Credit Request form for each transcript. Your application can be reviewed with unofficial transcripts. However, your acceptance into the program will not be determined until official transcripts have been received and evaluated.
3. Fill out and submit the BAS application. The Application Fee of $50 will be accepted at the time of completion. You will also be required to upload all unofficial transcripts if not already on file with Bellevue College.
