CES 152 - Introduction to Asian American Studies

Previously ETHN 152.
Survey of the history of Asian American ethnicities, evolution of Asian American Cultures in the United States from the 1850’s through the present, immigration patterns, evolution of co-cultures, evacuation, inter-ethnic relations. May be used as a social science or humanities course requirement, not both, at BC.

Prerequisite(s): Placement by assessment into ENGL 101  or ENGL 092  or ENGL 093  with a C- or better.

Course Outcomes
Demonstrate an understanding of the development of the concepts of racial identity and how these concepts work in the concept of Asian American identity. Demonstrate an understanding of the biases and stereotypes based on issues of race, class, and gender and how these affect the Asian American community. Identify and critically analyze terms and events that contribute to contemporary Asian American history. Demonstrate and understanding of the relationships between Asian Americans and other segments of American society. Demonstrate critical thinking and writing skills.
