INTST 261 - The Middle East in the Islamic Era

Same as HIST 261 .
Examines the political, social, and cultural history of the Middle East since the 7th century. Topics include the development of Islam, the rise and decline of Islamic empires, and the impact of modernization, the Arab-Israeli confrontation, and Islamic fundamentalism. Either INTST 261 or HIST 261  may be taken for credit, not both. May be used as a social science or humanities credit, not both, at BC.

Recommended: HIST 102  or HIST 103 .
Course Outcomes
  • Analyze and critically evaluate primary and secondary sources
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Evaluate the political, economic, social, religious, and cultural contexts of the growth and influence of Islam
  • Identify and assess the causes and consequences of major economic, social, political, and cultural developments in the history of the Middle East.
