| MATH& 151 - Calculus I 5 CR

Introduces the concepts of limits, derivatives, and integrals. Topics include techniques and applications of derivatives of algebraic and transcendental functions. Students begin working with antiderivatives. MATH 148  and MATH& 151 have overlapping content and students are not recommended to take both. Note: Fulfills the quantitative or symbolic reasoning course requirement at BC.

Prerequisite(s): Placement by assessment or MATH 142  with a C- or better, or Advanced Placement score of 2 or higher on AB or BC exam.

 Course Outcomes

Calculate limits of functions using graphs, numerical data, and analytically.Define the derivative of a function and explain what that means in graphical and applied contexts.Use the general differentiation rules to calculate derivatives of polynomial, rational and common transcendental functions and combinations of those functions.Apply the ideas and techniques of derivatives to solve problems of maximum/minimum and rates of change.Use derivatives to describe the shapes of graphs of functions.
