NURS 360 - Management in Healthcare


4 CR

Focuses on the development management skills assumed by healthcare professionals: delegation of responsibility;  facilitation of groups; conflict resolution; case management; and collaboration. Management and organizational theories are studied, evaluated, and applied. Concepts include organizational structure, change, managing quality and performance, workplace diversity, budgeting, and resource allocation, and delivery systems.

Prerequisite(s): Admission into BSN program.

Course Outcomes
  1. Examine the evolution of management theories in relationship to the changing healthcare environment  

  1. Appraise the impact of quality improvement in healthcare.  

  1. Incorporate professional communication techniques to promote effective and sustainable working relationships.  

  1. Analyze major care delivery models related to staffing in healthcare and promotion of patient safety.  

  1. Differentiate various types of budgets in consideration of sustainable resources and apply the steps of the budgetary process.    

  1. Create an appropriate unbiased performance appraisal tool for measuring performance, coaching, and motivating staff.  

  1. Compare the US healthcare financing and payment system to other world healthcare systems and their effect on sustainable resources and patient outcomes
