NURS 485 - Fieldwork in Community and Public Health Nursing


2 CR

This course provides fieldwork for students to apply nursing theory and nursing process while working collaboratively with families, communities, and populations. Fieldwork experience focuses on health promotion, disease prevention, patient education, and case management.

Prerequisite(s): NURS 410  with a C or better.

Course Outcomes
  1. Establish a relationship with community partners and together examine the interrelationships among individual health, family health and community health. 
  1. Assess health/illness beliefs, values, attitudes, and practices of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations. 
  1. Collaborate with community agency or partner to develop priority actions based on the previously identified needs and problems from community assessment data.  
  1. Interpret basic community data, assist in the data collection process, and use community assessment data in the development of priorities, expected outcomes and interventions. 
  1. Analyze which methods of assessment, intervention, and evaluation are most appropriate for given community groups and situations.
