OLS 125 - Environment & Our Community III

Third in a three-course series focusing on individual connection to community and the environment. Students explore ways they can contribute to environmental movements, local and global sustainability, and environmental justice.  Course is graded Credit/No Credit.

Prerequisite(s): OLS 124  (ERG 012629 in PS)

Course Outcomes
  1. Define community service  

  1. Discuss what a value is and identify the values you have  

  1. Discuss ways that values can be demonstrated through service  

  1. Identify and define the various types of service  

  1. Explore the costs and benefits of doing service  

  1. Identify the various movements in this country that was initiated by volunteers  

  1. Explain how the environmental movement uses volunteers today  

  1. Explain the causes and effects of global climate change 

  1. Recognize and understand existing and new knowledge about sustainability 

  1. Learn about conserving and restoring threatened and endangered species
