AHEL 130 - Clinical Laboratory Applications 3 CR
In this course, students will reinforce existing skills obtained in AHEL 120, Introduction to Clinical Lab. Application of phlebotomy skills, point of care testing, and lab automation gained through prior course work will be presented in case studies. Job preparedness will also be a focus of this course.
Prerequisite(s): Completion of AHEL 120 with a C or better at BC AND permission of Program Chair. No more than one quarter between completion of AHEL 120 and enrollment in AHEL 130 (or program chair permission).
Course Outcomes
- Describe the tests, collection containers, and collection requirements based on the laboratory requisition information using an online test directory.
- Demonstrate knowledge of waived testing, specimen processing, data entry and result retrieval using a Laboratory Information System (LIS) system.
- Apply quality assurance and safety techniques.
- Produce a professional portfolio including resume, cover letter, and common interview questions.
- Identify professional, employment, and certification requirements for the discipline.
