ELIUP 36 - Writing/Grammar 1


10 CR

Introduction to English sentence structure and grammar including the parts of speech, question patterns, and verb tenses. Students practice academic writing assignments focusing on the sentence, and learn and practice the writing process.

Prerequisite(s): Admission into the English Language Institute.

Course Outcomes
 

  • Use correct Level 1 grammar
  • Write different simple sentence patterns
  • Brainstorm and free-write to get ideas
  • Tell a story, or describe a person or a place
  • Use periods, question marks, and capital letters correctly
  • Use a dictionary to correct spelling errors
  • Use correct paragraph format
  • Work in pairs and small groups to improve writing
  • Name and use the parts of speech
  • Write and speak simple sentences and questions
  • Use the present simple, past simple, future simple and the present progressive tenses
