Healthcare Management and Leadership, Healthcare Management General Concentration, BAS

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Healthcare Management and Leadership, General Concentration in Healthcare Management, is a career-oriented bachelor’s degree program developed specifically to meet the career advancement needs of individuals with business and/or healthcare preparation and experience. It is designed to prepare individuals to successfully compete for jobs that require knowledge of the healthcare system and supervisory or management skills.

The first 90 credits of the degree are fulfilled by entrance prerequisites. The second half of the degree program offers a professionally relevant curriculum that helps students achieve their goals.

Learning Outcomes

Degree recipients should possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Manage, analyze, and present healthcare data for effective decision-making in support of wide array of healthcare practices such as meaningful use initiatives, patient safety studies, and revenue cycle management
  • Serve as liaison between technical and clinical functions to support users, including training and documenting the use of new technologies
  • Complete a capstone project that demonstrates the breadth and depth of the educational preparation
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continued competency through life-long learning

Program Eligibility

Individuals must have:

  • Any 50 credits of business, arts and humanities, social science, accounting, science, mathematics, IT, or healthcare-related field.
  • Demonstrated completion from a regionally accredited college of the following courses, or their equivalent, with a grade point average of 2.0 or better:
    • English composition course and Technical Writing or Research Paper course
    • College Level Math: MATH 130  - Introduction to Statistics or BA 240  - Statistical Analysis or equivalent
  • Co-requisite requirement: must be completed no later than the first two quarters of acceptance
    • Humanities course from AAS-DTA  transfer list
    • Science: must include at least one lab science course
    • Social sciences course from AAS-DTA transfer list
    • Either Humanities or Social Science must be a communication course
    • Introduction to Business, or Medical Terminology course, depending on student background

Degree Requirements

In addition to eligibility requirements, students must achieve the following:

  • Completion of 90 quarter credits in the general program and concentration requirements, with a grade of “C”, or better
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all coursework taken at BC and the courses applying to the degree, including credits transferred from other colleges
  • At least 45 quarter credits for the degree must be completed in residence at BC, of which 30 credits must be upper division

Application Process

This is a selective admissions program. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission, as the number of qualified applicants may exceed the number of available seats in the program. It is recommended that students meet with the program manager before filling out the BAS application to make sure they qualify.  Check the program’s website today to see if you are ready to apply and schedule an appointment.

To be considered for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Healthcare Management and Leadership, with a General concentration in Healthcare Management, prospective students must submit the following:

  • First-time Bellevue College students must apply for General Admission before filling out the BAS degree application. Processing time for general admissions is typically 1-3 business days.
  • All students who have transfer credits will need to follow the steps for submitting official transcripts from all regionally accredited colleges attended other than Bellevue College. This will include completing the program-specific Transfer Credit Request form for each transcript. Your application can be reviewed with unofficial transcripts. However, your acceptance into the program will not be determined until official transcripts have been received and evaluated.
  • Fill out and submit the BAS application. The Application Fee of $50 will be accepted at the time of completion. You will also be required to upload all unofficial transcripts if not already on file with Bellevue College.

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Prerequisite Requirements: 65 CR


  • Any business, arts and humanities, social science, accounting, science, mathematics, IT, or healthcare-related field 50 CR
  • Demonstrated completion from a regionally accredited college of the following courses, or their equivalent, with a grade point average of 2.0 or better:
  • ENGL 101  and ENGL 235  or ENGL 201  or equivalent 10 CR
  • MATH 130  or BA 240  or equivalent 5 CR

Co-requisite Requirements: 20-21 CR


Humanities: 5 CR


Either Humanities or Social Science must be a communication course

Science: 5-6 CR


Social Science: 5 CR


Either Humanities or Social Science must be a communication course
