    Provides students with opportunities to learn and practice 22 client care skills in preparation for the Washington state certification examination as a nursing assistant. Either HPRO 117 or NAC 107 may be taken for credit, but not both.

  • NAC 108 - Nursing Assistant Practicum

    Previously HPRO 118.
    Provides a total of 66 hours of supervised clinical instruction in both long term care and acute care settings. Either HPRO 118 or NAC 108 may be taken for credit, but not both.

    Recommended: Current CPR card, submit a complete Immunization Status form for BC healthcare students, WA state background check, and ability to safely lift 50 lbs.

    Focuses on the nurse’s therapeutic role in maintaining and enhancing behavioral health. Students learn to meet the needs of clients with challenged emotional and/or cognitive abilities that impair their day-to-day functioning.

    A scientific view of human nutrition. Topics include digestion, absorption and nutrient requirements for healthy living, use of food additives, food fads and diets, food safety and world hunger.

    Course Outcomes
    • Explain how family, culture, and social heritage inform our eating behaviors and food choices.
    • Describe the structure and function of the digestive, circulatory, and excretory systems in relationship to the digestion, absorption, transport and metabolism of nutrients.

Occupational and Life Skills

OLS at Bellevue College is an innovative 90-credit associate degree program unlike any other program in the nation. This program gives adults with cognitive disabilities the opportunity to acquire an accredited college degree that leads to post – graduation employment rates well above the national average. The curriculum is occupational and life skills based taught through scaffold instruction and universal design. All OLS courses focus on developing critical thinking skills, soft skills, and self – determination skills. Courses incorporate service learning in the community with local businesses as a way to help students utilize new skills outside of the classroom. Students create a career pathway over a three year period that is specific to their self – identified skills, strengths, and passions.     Introduces the basic techniques and tools used by the actor. Moving from improvisation to scene work, students learn warm ups, theater games, vocal physical and emotional awareness, listening skills, and beginning textual analysis using objectives, obstacles and tactics.

  • OLS 162 - Podcasts


    2 CR

    Podcasts combine acting, listening, and speech. Students practice adequate breathing and speaking to build confidence when reading scripts aloud and at the microphone. By listening to podcasts and classic radio dramas, they expand their imagination through the “theatre of the mind”. Students also write scripts of their own and develop characters for recording, and learn how changes in voice tone can influence those characters. And they collaborate to create a performance ensemble, culminating in a taped podcast.

    Provides an overview of ocean environmental issues, including the potential impacts of overfishing, undersea mining, habitat loss, pollution, coastal development, and global climate change.
